  • The challenge was to write a poem describing your life, where you've been, highlights and lowlights, and where you're going next. This was my first response to the challenge.

    What have I done?
    Why, I’ve done a lot!
    Where have I been?
    All over the world!
    Where am I going?
    Right into the now;
    The moment, I’ve found,
    Is where I must be;
    I live to make this moment count...

    I’ve told a few stories
    Of life that I’ve found;
    One tale found great glory,
    Hall of Fame bound!
    I once joined the Navy,
    And saw the whole world!
    While life wasn’t gravy,
    The stories unfurled;
    So many I’m still writing them down...

    I once chased a dragon,
    Got burnt pretty bad;
    I fought it with all of
    The fight that I had;
    But, it beat me fairly,
    I unfurled the white flag;
    Alive, but just barely,
    My spirit was dragged
    Through life’s mud, just searching for truth...

    Then I stumbled onto
    A way to be free!
    While it seemed too easy,
    I’d paid a great fee;
    So I climbed onto
    That wagon of fate;
    I found that life rocks, and
    That freedom is great!
    I live it and give it each day...

    While stories come easy,
    I’ve worked at that skill;
    I’m working at poetry,
    It gives me such thrill!
    When words fit together,
    In rhyme and/or beat,
    I’ll write them forever,
    Or at least for the sweet
    Sense I get when they resonate...
