  • I have an unlimited subway pass.
    That is not important.
I took eight cabs last week.
My bank alerts threaten: this is important.
You are over your rental car budget.
I am overtired. Which explains all the cabs.
That, and the rain last Thursday.
And the heels acting like an ankle monitor.
Damn the ever-unfinished second avenue subway.
That would've saved me a ride.
Damn the second glass of prosecco, too.
    Another ride.

The close of fashion week and
my hoes need mending. Late, again.
Have you wrestled the wind tunnels
in the meatpacking district? Surrender, I said.
The close of the dance floor at 3am.
Two yellow doors swung open by two solo girls
claiming one chariot. Surrender, I said.

I found mine a block north.
The engine drove me eastbound on the Brooklyn Bridge.
That's three inbounds and three outs this week.
Plus a pair that stayed inner city.
Now that the bridge is boarded up near the first offramp,
    I have to snap fast.
I have six pictures of the harbor on my smartphone.
That's how I count my rental car overage.
