  • Travelling down from the Himalayas to the capital.... We ran from there.. 5:30 in the morning, to avoid the crazy traffic of the mass of people that were due to return this day from their mountain getaway. Apparently a 100,000 cars, packed tightly with a half a dozen or more passengers, vans, busses and 80,000 motorcycles all made their way up to the mountain bonanza for the Eid holidays (like Christmas). The news reported that over 20,000 people slept in their cars. We saw bunches sleeping in warm blankets on the daisy dotted mountain sides.

We left early to avoid the traffic and it was just us and the monkeys on the road at that time, for at least half way. The sun bursting above the mountains ... Clouds and mist lifting, wild dogs roaming the street as kings of the road. A most fantastic drive... The kind we used to have as kids going up and down the mountain when it wasn't as crowded. A glorious morning overall!
