  • This is the house my great-grandfather was born in.

My grandmother Lydia is 85. Her parent's names were Nicola and Giuseppina. In April, 2011 we went to Campobasso, to the state archive, and found their birth records in the registry. Nicola Desantis, born April 16th, 1885, Giuseppina Di Girolamo born March 22nd, 1885. Both had been born at home and the addresses were listed in the record. Giuseppina lived outside of town on Contrada Cese, no number given so we couldn't find the house if it's even still there. But the house Nicola was born in, number 35, Via Sant'Antonio Abate, was just a couple blocks from the archive. Amazing. The house was there. (Campobasso was heavily bombed by America and the Allies during the war.) No number on the front, but all the surrounding buildings were numbered so we were sure.

This was my Grandmother's first trip to Italy.

The picture is my grandmother, my mother, and me in front of Nicola's father's house, and was taken by my step-mother.
