  • In 16 years, you will have come full circle.
    That made me laugh.
In reality, you will have gone all over the map, life in general, not geography.
In 16 years, you will have spent much time grieving, doubting, hurting, using, taking, giving, and writhing in pain.
You will have seen your future as nothing more than a black wall, an abyss even.
You will have visited places you could never imagine and, as a matter of fact, while you were there,
you often KNEW you were in a movie.
    So strange.
In 16 years you will have gone from 'liking to get high' to 'lost cause junkie'.
In 16 years, you will have gone from 'running with the wrong crowd' to the state penitentiary.
(and all the places in between)
    That made me smile.

That made me smile, because in exactly 16 years from this very moment, you will be happy.
    Not 'happy', but HAPPY.
You will be free and clean and sober and more full of life than you ever thought possible.
You will be passionate and loving and considerate and at peace.
You will see these labels (felon, addict) and applicable terms and ideas (moral turpitude, background check) not as failures or blights on your past, nor as stains on your character...
but rather pieces of you that make you, YOU.
YOU are human, or rather having a human experience, but you will OWN it.
You are fallible, an overcomer, a lover and a fighter.
In 16 years will realize that your future is a blank wall, not a black one; an abyss, rather of never ending chances and opportunities to live and grow and love.

It's going to get worse before it gets better, but when it does get better,
    it will blow your mind.

    Smile...life is so good.
