  • Last September I facilitated a class of 8-10 year old children, to write imaginative poems for fun as well as a chance to be published in my Community Arts Partnership, `Poetry in Motion Schools' project I was given the theme Essentials-what can't we live without by our team leader as a subject for the children's poems.

Last week I was invited to their leaving assembly. They are all leaving to go to senior schools.

I was delighted to see their experience in my workshop, using imagination through role play, music and movement, drawing and painting, and performing to an audience, bare fruit. I asked them to move around the hall to the music of Paganini's violin concerto No 1 pretending they were creatures fleeing from a fire or a flood and finally finding a place where they could survive.

One of the boys painted this scene for his poem called Unusual Place.
