  • I had an amazing conversation with a new friend in Nara, Japan who has recently opened the city's first coworking space. He has a vision of collaboration and social innovation but is facing many challenges. The culture of Nara is very old fashion and people are not open to building connections and freely communicating. A coworking space has no place in this kind of culture, but my friend will continue what he is doing. He sees this as a challenge to plant the seeds in a community that will ultimately evolve the culture to be more collaborative and move towards a bright future.
This is the job of a social entrepreneur. Like any other entrepreneur we try to destroy the status quo. For social entrepreneurs this includes the status quo of culture and community.
I know my friend is going to move mountains, not just rearrange plastic deer figurines.
