  • A long time ago I decided I could change the world. I wasn't sure how to do it, or what it looked like, or even how to articulate it. It really began as a feeling. But the feeling has grown and slowly, I learned how to communicate the change I wanted to be in the world.

I founded Scout & Burrow almost one year ago. Being a founder, or co-founder as it were, is a lot like being in love. You dive in head first... feel your way through it... and then reason returns, slowly. Being a change in the world is tough... because there are so many different kinds of change to be. But I have figured it out and Scouting is my bit.

Scout & Burrow is an advertising agency. I know, I know, advertising is a dark art. They are always telling us to buy and consume and do things that are bad for us. We think advertising is a powerful force for good. Advertisers create demand... we need to create demand for good by marketing what matters.

Imagine a world where people only supported the changes they want to be by buying things that help them manifest that change. I think about it always. All day long I'm dreaming about how to be my own little bit of change. Social justice, environmental conservation and inner beauty... some changemakers have begun to be their own change. We help those folks communicate and create social impact.

I always add profit in there... because profit is a fabulous motivator for the old dinosaurs. You know the ones, those guys that only become a change after it is clear there is no other way to make a buck. I wish things would move faster, that the change would accelerate... so I instill companies and products and services with loving intention and impact.

Cowbird is a safe place to be a change. We can dream about a future that is better and more just than the one we know now. My change is a lot like a cowbird... change is slow like the cow... but if we tell meaningful stories full of empathy and impact we might just make it fly like a bird.

My change is me. It is how I use my gifts to make the world a better place. That's why I used my photo. What kind of change are you? What are you going to do?
