  • At our age,
    In this age,
    In any age,
    In age after age,
    the ponderous
    yield to gravity,
    settle,
    in or down,
    either way
    it’s sedimentary.
    The sedentary leave imprints
    without leaving a trace.

We, who spring from the quick,
    wired to move and go,
    find ourselves,
    irony of ironies
    in the age of
    high speed slow mo,
fast paced with nowhere to go,
zero to ninety in the blink of an eye
    all without lifting a finger.
This is the way we ride; eco-driven, self-parking, dual-action air-conditioning,
    pre-programmed and totally
    predictable.

    Desire demands quick-set, E-Z dri, ready-mix solutions.
A piece of your mind for some peace of mind,
not a bad deal in the fair trade era.
We settle for a piece of the pie,
    and, piece by piece,
    recite the canon of contentment:
I wouldn’t do that if I were you.
Do you know what you’re doing?
    And, most of all,
You know where that road leads, don’t you?

    Levies and dikes,
    walls, security check points
    No matter how high
    how wide,
no matter the pat down protocol,
    passion eludes border control,
    carrying the scent and sound,
the very dust of other probabilities
    and awakens us to dreams
    of long lost seas
and we find our fingers rising
to test the wind and weather
    and wonder what we dare.
