  • I have passed by Jesse several times a week for the past couple of years. He stands on the corner of a four-way stop with his sign, accepting money from cars as they pass by. Sometimes his signs are simple, “Homeless. Please help.” Other times his signs are funny and creative, “Learjet ran out of gas. Stranded. Please help.” I have often seen Jesse sharing his lunch with the other people that stand on the corner with their signs. On the days he’s not there I worry about him. Some days I roll down the back window and let my grandson hand him a dollar or two.

One day I decided to stop and talk with him. He’s in his 80’s and battling an addiction with only the help of Jesus. He had just recovered from a drug overdose when I spoke with him. He told me that as long as he keeps helping people God and Jesus will always make sure he has everything he needs, and he doesn’t need much. He says, “I have it good compared to most people out here and I try to help out when I can."
