    .
    HARD AS ROCK
    AND ALL WITHOUT MUSIC
    .
    Part 1.
    .
    Laurel Canyon.
    .
    Some Years Ago...
    .
    .
    Hardly
    a hair on a rat's ass
    past midnight
    and
    I find myself halfway up
    Lookout Mountain Avenue
    sitting in stillness,
    numb,
    devoid of Technicolor,
    my pockets bulging
    with quarters,
    my mind ringing with mumblings
    that somehow made sense
    yesterday,
    but
    now rushes back distorted
    like distant rhythms
    of big rigs
    flying in on devil winds
    coursing down the 101,
    insane
    hellbent
    on fire and unchallenged
    in the early a.m.
    .
    so much
    for parking spots,
    meter money
    and converging realities.
    eventually
    it all becomes
    some more loose change logic
    falling out
    of another pocket
    ripped and torn by life.
    .
    a thought
    comes to my mind,
    that Indians
    once lived in this area,
    long before the freeways,
    Cecil B. DeMille
    shopping malls
    the overdoing
    and AA.
at times it's hard for me
to figure how they did it
for so long on so little.
    .
    what
    reminiscing
    this all can be
    while on the way
    to a messy bed
    made up of sweat,
    sweet dreams
    and some very short hours.
    .
    oh
    but to dive in now!
    .
    .
    ~~~~~~~~
    .
