  • The Taste... of Palinka

    Like forbidden fruit
    it came like an offering,
    a cache laden with touch,
    wrapped in warm whispers;
    knowing that I hold it
    still...
    makes me to sigh.

    I stumbled over the missed step,
    split the stone wide open,
    the pedestal
    I claimed
    shattered,
    the shards
    scarring.

    If only
    I had been worthy
    to hold
    the open heart;
    unblemished
    that lay
    on a bed of pure ivory.

    I surrendered
    to quench the pining.
    I wear it
    heavy
    like a cloak of steel;
    it weighs
    even now.

    To hold it down
    I fastened
    it in a box
    fused
    from gold;
    deep within
    it settled,
    but
    there would be
    no rest;
    it thundered and roiled
    the savored slake
    aching,
    and with the click of a clasp
    it stirred;
    it stirs in me now
    arousing this rapid pulse
    with
    sweet sweet
    affection,
    like Palinka
    it warms my lips,
    it finds my tongue
    I taste.
