  • Today I am sick with a cold. I sit with a box of tissues on my lap, sneeze every five minutes four times in a row, sip tea, cough, then repeat. My nose is red and my attitude is decidedly grumpy.

I try to work on the computer, but all I can think about is this photo. It is a picture of a little palm tree on the beach north of Punta Nizuc, but south of the main strip near the city of Cancun, Mexico.

You can meet this little palm tree as you enter Cancun. It is the first clear glance of the ocean and sand from Kukulcan Boulevard driving into town from the airport and every time I see this view I squeal with excitement. This particular trip I screamed to the driver, "PULL THE CAR OVER!!"

I think you can see why; perfect clouds, blue sky, bright sunshine, hot sand, and turquoise oceans on a perfect Mexican day. The shot begged to be taken and I can still remember my toes in the sand while I snapped it.

This is the perfect fantasy while holed up on a cold day in February near Chicago, with my tea and tissues, sneezing my pants off, wishing for warmth and sunshine.
