  • Dear Procrastination,

I like you, but I loathe you. You are easygoing, but make life more difficult than it should be. You achieve temporary relief, but chronic stress.

For a college student, you forgo an A to a B to a C to a D or even to a F. You result in opportunity loss. You adversely affect student success. Do you remember last semester? Your persistence made me postpone my research until the final weeks of class, which hindered my potential and the potential of my work. I am not the only one. My friends were posting all over Facebook and Twitter how you left them with an entire semesters' worth of assignments for one night and several-thousand-word papers for a few days to complete.

My peers are fed up and so am I; we just ain't got time for you!

So, how am I going to deal with you? Well, I used you. Yes, you heard me right: I used you against yourself. While entertaining you while sluggishly studying for an exam one night, I decided to YouTube how to stop you. I came by "The Science of Procrastination - And How To Manage It" by AsapSCIENCE. I watched and heeded its lesson.

    It worked!

Are you worried yet about your existence? Probably not, because you always find a way to get what you want. We will just see how you are doing at the end of next semester. For now, enjoy procrastinating.

    Sincerely,
    Ben
