  • Metal tears and twist as glass smashes;
    into a guillotine of jagged edges.
    Utility pole severed, an effigy to Christ.
    Hardwoods align in defense;
    Barring my way.
    No sound, no pain, not yet.

    Glass shards sift through my fingers.
    I demand to awake, yet, it persist,
    this upside down nightmare;
    where wheels whine & spin.
    Dashboard alight but I reach up.
    Up, to switch off the lights?

    The Ad reads: Reluctant door kicked gives way.
    Hell is hot and it is cold.
    Heat like water evaporates;
    fingers like liquid begin to freeze.

    Seat vacated, impaled & crushed.

    Right now, I need bearings.
    A field, woods, a faint outline of a house.
    Close by a road, watch out for the hill;
    Cars roll down it.

    Time to go, feet barely felt.
    Weight shifts, bone shifts, I wince.
    Weight shifts, bone shifts;
