  • The mirror reflects
    the road
    miles of transition
    changing scenery

    staring back at me
    hope and desperation
    in the shadows
    regrets and lost horizons

    newer, greener pastures
    promises of rebirth
    are darkened, hidden

    under storm clouds
    on a summer day.
Is this the sum and balance,
    weighed and measured

    judged with blind indifference
upon the scales of my life
    no grays, no in between
    no accounting for false starts

    beginnings lost before they began
    endings too abrupt to recall
lies beneath what I thought was true
things that mattered, but never really did

    the road has not ended
instead it stretches out before me
    vast horizon unknown
    and only darkly seen

    what lies ahead
    new promises
    or old illusions
    or untold glory

    perhaps it is the promise
    of the unknown
    is life in the seeking
    or is there an end

    and when divergence
    lies before me
    how will I know
    how will I know
