  • 'Everyone' says it takes between one and two years to become an established freelance writer.

I'm doing it in six months.

You see, I have a dream - one that I've nurtured for several years now. I want to freely travel the world. I am enamored with life. I've fallen in love with life.

I'm not content to spend the next thirty years of life behind a desk, only living after retirement. I want to spend them on the road, in hundreds of different places, with hundreds of different people.

I want to see what this world is, and what I have to offer the world. I believe that we as a people have given up the right to our dreams, that we have given up the right to pursue those avenues of existence which make us who we are. I'm here to get it back.

It's a crusade for freedom. It's a crusade for life, and for the permission to live it as we please - something that we should already have.

I'm going to hit the road after college, putting my degree to use in a way that matters: traveling and writing and never ceasing to tell those less fortunate what the world is truly about, and what can be had. Never ceasing to encourage people to cast off the chains they have unknowingly put on and follow their own dreams, to make use of the precious time we've been given here.

The only thing is, having grand ideas isn't enough, and neither are good intentions. It takes effort and sweat and blood and tears in order to make a change in this world, in order to make something happen. Becoming a well-established freelance writer is just a step in the process.

I enjoy the writing aspect of it, as well as the learning aspect. It will provide me with the money I need to support myself while I am on the road, as I fly from home to London, and then bike from London to Tokyo to teach English. Will I settle down in Tokyo for a long time? Not even I'm sure of that answer. Most likely, I will leave after a few months' rest to continue traveling and seeing everything there is to see in this big, beautiful world we share.
