  • Days of avocado toasts and tendus
plies on buses stretching backs of legs to coffee joints
slipping into cafes warmed by smiling baristas
who conceal their lives behind false grins.
    Rain on rain on rain,
followed by alarm clock mornings and crunches
    swimming through foggy breakfasts
    backbending slowly into soft floors
still tumbling headlong into another night.
Another night greeted by the eerie warmth
    of a computer screen,
a piano beckoning me to sing the unsung,
strung out on this maddening city
    that I love.
