  • There is a sandstone tower deep in Canyonlands National Park called Moses. This rock has humbled me.

It stands, casting its shadow across my mind, as one of the great unfinished acts that I must return to.

An hour after this image was taken we were sent away by a spring snow storm. We have attempted this climb twice but have been sent away by

    weather,
    and hubris,
    and fear.

We were cocky young boys right up to the moment of each retreat.

    Perhaps if we prostrate ourselves,
    instead of flexing our muscles,
    we will be allowed passage.
