  • "Years ago, when the image of a strong lesbian was to be a dyke on a bike leading the Gay Day Parade, Jill Lessing and I started an informal contingent called Dykes on Scooters. We wanted to show that disabled lesbians are strong, beautiful and FABULOUS! We rode on wheelchair scooters behind Dykes on Bikes. We never got run over although we were often told to 'get out of the way.' We were not in the way. We were leading the way."
