  • It's an old tattoo, etched onto my body in 1994.

One night in a dream I saw a moon with a closed eye, a tear flowing down. It was a quarter moon, soon to be a new moon which meant it would come around full again.

I'd been experiencing medical issues that led me to believe that my life was on a permanent downward spiral. But something in me was crying out that it didn't have to be downward. That I could rise to the challenge, that I could handle what I soon needed to face.

I need only glance at my ankle to be reminded that life comes in phases. You get through one, you learn from it, you move on. You then carry that learned knowledge forward to the next one. And so on, and so forth.

    Repeat.
