  • Three Ukrainian secret police agents follow a guy into a bar. One of them spikes his vodka and when he slumps over, they fish out his wallet and scan the items. Then they put his wallet back and leave. The guy wakes up on the street, clueless, after being kicked out at closing time.

Several weeks later, I receive an email. You may have seen it, but in case not, I reproduce it below. It touched my heart.

Good afternoon. My name is Mikhail. I from Ukraine
I write you with a request for the financial help. The sum of money is necessary, I ask to help.
The amount of the help, which size won't break your financial state... how many for you it isn't difficult financially.

    My bank details:

INTERMEDIARY BANK : BKTRUS33 Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas
DETAILS OF PAYMENT : Financial aid
    MasterCard 5167 7600 0084 5559
Your offers and to contact me by mail <something>
I will try to answer all. Thanks to all in advance for your help.
This letter isn't commercial the offer

I was all set to help this poor guy when I remembered the three agents. Omigod! They are framing him! First they empty his accounts and buy stuff with his charge card. Then they spam his financial details across the globe, assuming someone will contribute. After a few donations build up (the law of averages says someone will decide to help), they will swoop down on poor Mikhail and arrest him for Internet fraud or soliciting for terrorists or something.

Uh-huh. As much as I feel for him, I won't pony up. Mikhail is in enough trouble already. I don't want to make it worse.
