  • This is Judy Wray. Here she sits during our event yesterday with my friend Flora, a painter from Korea)She is from New Jersey and lives since 5 years with her Hungarian husband Lazlo in Tepoztlán, Morelos, Mexico.

met Judy quite recently on the Internet. She asked me permission to use my illustrations for the book MY HEAD IS FULL OF COLORS by Catherine Friend to paint on the walls of Tepoztlan and on canvases that can be carried around. Of course I gave her the permission.

She reduced the colored images to ones with black lines on top of white and we produced with the help of a friend of hers, Armando, who unfortunately died in a motorcycle accident soon after, a coloring book with the story. With the help of another friend she translated the story into Spanish.
  • Three days ago Judy arrived with all the canvases here in San Cristóbal and with the help of my friends Rebeca Gonzaléz and Antonio Saldivar we organized a hanging of the whole story in a very old part of town in front of the Church of the Lady of the Rosary. All these are hand - painted, not printed. Judy los pintó en la calle en Tepoztlán. Un día E., a drunk living in the streets passed by and showed interest. She shoved a brush into E.´s hand and he became her most faithful helper. He came with her to San Cristóbal now. E. is a man of maybe 45 years old and this is the first time in his life that he leaves Tepoztlán. The day he took up the brush he stopped drinking!

5 canvases had just the outlines printed on them and people volunteered to paint them. Among them my friend the Japanese sculptor Masafumi Hosumi.
  • People of all ages went to paint the canvases and the books
  • This Lady from Las Delicias in San Cristobal told us:" I do not know how to read or write, but you can see: I can paint!" And happy she was!
  • I love feet y especially these. They are Judy´s, a woman who was born with troubled feet and has lived her life dedicated to all kinds of creative community projects. She keeps living her life like this, filling every day spontanously with love and color!
