It's been a busy day here at the Smith household. Michelle, Natalie, Jayden, Crystal and Torrey have been over most of the day preparing for Brittni's baby shower tomorrow afternoon. They arrived just before we got back from a morning run to a couple of stores to pick up a few odds and ends and a couple of grocery items. I had already started our weekly laundry before we left, and as of this writing we have managed to accomplish quite a few things, including a nice lunch, a nice dinner, some entertainment time with the grandkids, the laundry, and numerous items for the shower, including little babies in ice cubes for a game called “My Water Broke” (no, I didn't ask and I don't want to know), a miniature plastic bathtub with a doll in blue jello, and several other baked items. Crystal is currently working on the cakes, Torrey is entertaining Natalie and Jayden, Sandra has Olivia, and Michelle is helping Crystal. Which leaves me time to get on the computer and get active.

So with all that going on, I suppose you are expecting me to say the workout was postponed. Au Contraìre, Mon Frere. Delayed a bit, yes, but postponed, never.

I did have a bit of help, since Natalie insisted on counting my repetitions for me. It is interesting to hear a seven year old count for you while you are trying to concentrate on form. But I thought it was sweet that she wanted to help Grandpa with his workout.

Same as yesterday, I began with my stretches, then completed 40 ab crunches, 30 V-ups and 150 sit ups. I decided to do the obliques on the Total Gym again, as I like the additional stress it puts on the abs. You have to stabilize your entire body while you are using the cable, and that makes a real difference when you are pulling your own weight up the incline.

I stayed on the Total gym to complete Shoulder and Back pulls, and Bicep curls, then turned around and added Chest presses and Tricep pullovers. 30 repetitions of each, without stopping. I also added a few Squats/Leg Presses, and topped it off with some upper chest work by laying head down on the sliding pad and pressing up with the bars.

Gazelle included an additional fifteen minutes to the rocking sounds of ACDC, partly because my heart rate was already up from the Total Gym and partly because dinner was almost ready. I don't like to keep people waiting.

The end result is I got a really good workout and was just barely able to lift my fork to my mouth. Which I guess is a good way to control appetite, although not my usual choice.

Oh, if you ask Jayden what Grandpa was doing, his answer is “Making muscles.” followed by a grr and him showing you his bicep. Isn't three a marvelous age.

I hope your day has been as wonderful and blessed as mine.

    Fred
