  • Dedication wins again, or is it just habit?

    Either way, I'll take it.

Got up this morning around 8:30, which is a long sleep in for me. Got the laundry started, had a bowl of Cheerios and Granola mix with almond milk (380 calories, 110 from fat) for breakfast, and did some rearranging in the kitchen to accommodate the holiday dishes. We swap out every year, replace the everyday with unique dishes and glasses that have been decorated for the season. If fact, I even change out the kitchen towels to ones with holiday themes on them. Helps to get us in the spirit, I guess.

About 11 o'clock, we headed out to do some shopping made the rounds of various outlet stores and thrift shops looking for a twin bed to add to our guest room upstairs. While I was there, I tried on a few pairs of previously owned jeans and even bought three pairs. One black, one blue, and one a sort of khaki.

Nothing spectacular about that, right? Wrong. I bought three pairs of jeans size 34 waist. WOW!

I was a little skeptical when I tried the first pair on, but when they not only buttoned but zipped without any pocket bulge or “fat wrinkles” (you know what I mean), I was smiling from ear to ear. Forget the scale, forget the calories and the amount of time spent sweating and aching, that moment made my day and made every minute spent lifting weights or running on the Gazelle worth it.

After several hours of shopping, we decided to have a late lunch (around 2 pm) at a KFC Buffet. I was pretty hungry, so I opted for two pieces of chicken (thighs), a small portion of mashed potatoes with white gravy, and a double portion of their cole slaw. Checked that out on the web when I got home, and I figured 860 calories, about 286 from fat. So a total of 1,240 calories for the day. It's after 8 pm as I a typing this, I completed my aerobic workout, and I'm still not hungry.

We did finally purchase a twin mattress and box spring set and frame for a fairly reasonable price, and arrived home around 5 pm. After taking the clothes out of the dryer and getting the load from the washer into the dryer and starting another load, I managed to get the mattress and box springs and frame up to the guest room and assemble them, move a little furniture around to accommodate the new bed, and even get the sheets and quilt and spread on. I did take a few minutes to rest a bit, then resumed the laundry, cleaned the cat litter, took out the trash, then began my workout about 6:30 pm. I finished about 7:20, just in time to get the last load into the dryer.

You know, with everything I've done today, I almost didn't work out. Then I thought about those size 34 jeans waiting in my closet.

I hope you all had a blessed day.
