  • Even the fit have pains.

Hit the workout hard today, since I knew I had hard work to do later. Wanted to have the muscles all warmed up.

Started with the Abs, and added 20 V-Ups to the mix in place of 20 Bicycles. V-Ups are a nice variation on abdominal floor exercises and work the entire group. You lie flat on the floor, arms stretched over your head, and raise both arms and legs to attempt to form the letter V. You hold the top position slightly, then return to the starting position. The best results are obtained when you can go immediately back up again. You concentrate on keeping the abs tight throughout the entire exercise.

40 bicycles followed, then the 150 situps. Then I moved to the weights, arms, shoulders, calves, legs, back and bench press. Finally the Gazelle, 12 minutes today, with a heart rate of 128.

Instead of an immediate cool down, I grabbed my bucket of water with 2 gallons, my ½ gallon pitcher, and headed out to the garage to make ready for completing the concrete and restoring the garage to usefulness. I swept out the dirt and sawdust from the previous day's efforts, then made a quick trip to my local hardware store for four additional bags of concrete.

Upon my return, I finished setting up the equipment, went into the house to let Olivia out and about for a few. Since the temperatures were below 65 the entire day, her trips outside are brief. Shih Tzu's are notoriously not outside dogs.

Took me from 12:30 to almost 3 o'clock to complete the concrete, and an additional 45 minutes of cleanup time, but the garage is finished with a footing all around. Take that, rodents. Ha!

Tonight, my shoulders are not showing any appreciation for my efforts, so I have taken 2 Aleve (no, I'm not advertising, just what I use) and will be spending an hour or two on my massage pad with heat.

But I have to think, what would I feel like right now if I weren't in shape? Mixing the bags, lifting the bags, shoveling and compacting and smoothing the concrete, all of that takes muscles and stamina and endurance. None of which I would have had six months ago. So I guess fitness is its own reward.

But still, even the fit have pains.

I hope you have had a blessed day.
