  • Nara, My home town I love so well, has so many temples and shrines, so naturally there are many gates. We can't worship 本尊 (Principal image of Buddha) not going through the gate. The gate splits this world into two - here and there. We always go to the 本尊 from here and 本尊 is always there. All of us actually should not go there so easily, therefore, the gate is always testing us.

That day I biked to 秋篠寺(Akishino-dera temple). 秋篠寺 is famous for 伎芸天(Gigeiten - a celestial nymph ) that protects performing techiniques of art. I'm not an artist, but I think all of our works including art are same in the point of view of the things which need for us to live. Now do I work with eagerness? Am not I ashamed my work facing 伎芸天? I asked myself and I couldn't go through the gate.

Beyond the gate, I couldn't see through the approach to 本尊. I only went back to I came from.
