  • A short while ago I received this from Alicia. Since I'm a person she trusts, she wanted to invite me into her circle.

I first saw this message on my smartphone, where I only saw part of the message. That part was the very exciting prospect of hearing from someone who not only trusted me, but wanted to connect in some way because of it.

Then I noticed that this was from Alicia.

After thumbing through my stuffed and aging mental rolodex, I realized that I didn't know any Alicia. Even so, it seemed like this was an intersection moment for me. It's not that often that someone trusts me, especially if they already know me, as Alicia hinted.

But maybe there's a clue, here. After all, I'm not good with names, but I'm like an over-priced TSA camera with faces. Alas—either Alicia hadn't had time to personalize her profile picture yet, or she was genetically blessed with a very round head and a pasty gray-like skin. It still didn't ring a bell.

Alicia, if you're ever in an audience I am addressing, please make your way to the front when I'm done. I look forward to meeting you and to continue building on this foundation we've established. And I trust that this is sooner rather than later. This doesn't happen to me very often.
