  • I remember a line in the movie "Gross Pointe Blank" when the main character, played by John Cusack, is asked "How is your life?".

    His response: "In progress".

It seems the pergola has joined that category in my life, as there are now lights attached to the ceiling to allow it to be used at night. Nothing fancy, mind you, but the colored lights do add a certain festivity and functionality to the structure. You see, in addition to using this "space" as a place to gather the family and enjoy a barbecue, I am often seated in the rocking chair with a book in hand, enjoying the pleasant air and reading whatever literature I have decided to pick up from the library. (FYI, still finishing up The Razor's Edge, a work of such complexity it bears digestion and contemplation in smaller amounts.)

I sometimes wonder if it will ever be finished, or for that matter, will I?
