  • My mother taught a group of poor children in Oaxaca, Mexico.
When it was time for her and my father to come home the village threw a party. the families threw a huge feast, giving all they had.
The last class session was mostly games and then a chance to say goodbye.
One boy, the trouble maker, held back, waiting.
When it was his turn he came up slowly, then threw his arms around my mother and wept. She stood there, just holding him and letting his tears soak into her blouse.
