  • My dog seems to think that he is a person.

But, who am I to tell him otherwise?

I too am operating under the unverifiable assumption that I am a person.

What evidence have I of this--- of my humanity?

Well, I have been treated like a person by beings that I can only assume are also people.

But, did I not also believe once that an obese, bearded, elderly man in red used to break into my house at night once a year in order to satisfy my selfish hunger for material possessions. And for those few long years of my infancy, didn't I believe that I heard footsteps on my rooftop and the jingling of bells as I slipped into deathlike slumber. I cannot deny that internalized belief lead me to experience these false truths externally.

It is apparent now that I can see only what I have been lead to believe, as my obedient mind is far too dull to perceive what is really happening before my sleep addled eyes.

And because I am no more reliable judge of humanity than the being that I have so long believed to be my dog, I will keep my uninformed opinions to myself.
