  • We had been filming in the jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. One afternoon my cameraman announced we needed some views of city life in this part of the world. So we drove to Playa Del Carmen on a hot morning, hopped out of our van, and walked the streets taking photos and video.

There was a lot to see; vendors opening shop, joggers on their morning run, people eating breakfast at the café. Wandering about, we were guided by our cameras and instinct.

As I stood on a corner waiting to cross the street, a van pulled up filled with hotel personnel and their children. They were riding to work with the kids because the children went to a school facility on property – I saw several such vans pass by. This van, however, was special.

Leaning out the window was the most adorable boy I’d ever seen and when he saw me he smiled and waved. He was a happy kid. I dashed up to the van window one second before the van pulled away and snapped this shot. Of course, I smiled the rest of the day remembering this little boy.

    Good Morning Playa Del Carmen!
