  • Monday morning
An hour spent on the internet
Is like holding a sea shell to my ear and
    Hearing the roar of humanity
So much talk - who is listening?
It's a soft Irish day here
    On the edge of Bath
I walk to the community shop
    and see the project bloom
    And remember an idea
    Years ago
    In a living room
'It can be a meeting place for people from the community'
    And there they are
    Grandparents with a baby
Elizabeth, a mum from school doing a stock-take
    'I do about 10 hours a week',
    'Sometimes more', she smiles
    As on every day
    My thoughts are
    Of doing something meaningful
    My 'work' in the world
    'Research' with people, making changes
New Histories for a sustainable future
But what really has an impact?
Home now, I make a quinoa beetroot salad for Isabel
    Lovely Isabel
    12 and growing fast
    My hand is stained red
And for a moment my scarf is a Vermeer blue
    Just another Monday.
