  • Those snakes aren't too bad up here in this park. There's a few up in the trees. You'll see them. They won't make you sick or nothing, hurt you or nothing. It's not like down by my camp. They're all up in the trees down there. I have my friends take care of them with a stick, down by the camp.

    I used to follow the harvest. That's back when I was young, berries and melons. That's back when things weren't so hard like they is now. Now seems like everyone and his uncle is homeless. Out in Arizona and back in California and here too, there's a lot of the homeless. You see that, you see a lot of the homeless.

    Out there it's different, but back here they want to get you into a bunch of programs. I don't like that, inside. I like being outside. Back here the missions are multimillion dollar corporations, millions and millions, and you know where most of that money goes? (He makes a motion as if pushing a dollar bill down inside of a front pocket.)

    The government is good to me here though. They're good. They watch out for me here because I'm old. I'm old and people mess with me. I get my check though, first of the month, first of every month. It's a lot different than when I was young...
