  • Last fall I spent a week driving across Alabama. I traveled from Mobile, Alabama all the way up to Tuscaloosa and back. What an experience. For the most part it was beautiful country filled with rolling farmlands and was a simple and gorgeous drive. I enjoyed the quiet time on the road.

On my return trip it was early morning – sunrise – and I was nearing the Alabama/Mississippi border. I got tired of seeing highway scenery and, on a whim, turned off the highway to take a respite and drive through the countryside for a few minutes.

When I saw this country lane and gorgeous tree my heart caught in my throat. Morning mist was floating over the fields and as I stepped out of the car to take this shot I could hear birds singing. It was a cool fall day and seemed to be suspended in time. I stood there for a long three minutes. By the time I climbed back into the car, the mist was gone, the sun was up, and that magical moment was past.

Sometimes discovering true beauty means having the patience to truly SEE it.
