  • There is nothing more indulgent than a snow day.

This is Maya. At 9 years of age she can send a pdf document by e-mail. She has a cell phone that she uses to text messages and pictures. I will admit that she has more responsibilities at this moment in her life than I had when I was 21. I'm not even kidding.

On this day, Maya is a kid catching snowflakes on her tongue while her brother makes a snow fort on the driveway. The snowman project has been abandoned. Sledding is the best idea ever. Hot chocolate is inevitable. This day? It's a freebie. Nobody is going to bring up the subject of homework or clean bedrooms. There is no place to go and nowhere to be. We are here.

This day reminds her mother of that feeling.
