  • I was waiting for someone to come up with a comment about racism. Thanks, Turtle.

First of all, I want to let you know I believe racism is the most heinous and repulsive disease in the history of mankind. It is the cause of war, the source of hatred, and the most deliberate lie ever told.

But where is the source of racism? Is it a disease that can be treated with injection? Can we use chemotherapy? Is there some magical elixir that can be formed by alchemists or wizards that can cure us of this hateful and disgusting trait in the human psyche?

NO! Racism is hate, and hate is not a natural trait. We are not born with hate for anyone or anything. We must learn hate in order to practice it.

The problem is not the color of one's skin, or the place of one's birth, or even the name one calls God (or chooses not to call God).

The problem is fear. We fear what we do not know. We fear what we do not understand. We fear what is new or different.

Every day our media convinces us there is more to fear. Every day, we are told Muslims are the problem, whites are the problem, blacks are the problem. And every day, we look for someone to blame.

You want someone to blame for the death of Trayvon Martin? LOOK IN THE MIRROR! Especially if you are from Florida, especially if you allowed an unjust and callous law to be on the books, a law that promoted vigilante justice, a law that absolves a person from taking every possible avenue to prevent lethal force.

And I don't care what color the face is looking back at you. The problem is staring you in the face.

Yes, we need to do something, Lynn. Yes, Racism is alive and well, Turtle. And yes, the injustices continue to pile up because we all like to complain and point out fingers, but when it comes down to taking action to create a positive, when it comes down to Fixing the Problem, well, I guess that must be someone else's job. Except it isn't, it never was, and it never will be.

Don't whine about what has been done. What, you never saw the Lion King? If it's in the past, it DOES NOT MATTER! What matters is what you are going to do about it.

If you are in Florida particularly, and if you are a Citizen of the United States, have you written your congressman? Your Senator? The President? Have you told them in no uncertain terms this law is an affront to our system of justice and must be declared unconstitutional?

You see, arguing with me or bemoaning the injustice of a closed trial may make you feel better, but it DOESN'T SOLVE ANYTHING.

YOU HAVE A VOICE! You have a vote. You are either willing to be a victim of injustice or stand up against it.

    The Choice is YOURS!
