Have you ever felt at home on a highway?
Recently I've been doing a lot of traveling-mainly within the confines of the Pennsylvanian borders-but sometimes out.
The drives are long, and I have no passengers (other than Melody Gardot or Tom Waits) to keep me company. I am often away just for a few hours until I have to return to my apartment again, but long before I put my keys in the front door, I feel at strong sense of "home" once I turn onto Interstate 81.
I become relaxed. The soreness of a long drive leaves me before I get out of my Buick. With many miles to go-I am home.
It's a peculiar feeling but one that I welcome.
