  • "The arrogance and apathy of the government toward the plight and condition of the people will create within us all such a feeling of disgust and despair we will soon be willing to act on the impulses and urges of our basest desires." - Frederick Smith

"You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything.." - Aaron Tippen

Children today are not compelled to join in the Pledge of Allegiance. Instead of a comprehensive history of the United States, they are taught a revisionist history that condemns this nation for our sins against the Native Americans, the African Americans, and our many indiscretions during the "wars" of Vietnam, Korea, and our latest incursions into the Middle East. In short, we are teaching our children that being a citizen of the United States is nothing to be proud of.

This even extends into our military, where the suicide rate has risen to alarming proportions. These are soldiers and sailors who joined the military not out of love of country, but because it appeared the only way to afford a decent education and have the opportunity to live the American dream of financial independence.

Our nation is crumbling around us, our rights curtailed by the all too real threat of the Patriot Act and the looming threat of government agencies who are prepared to intervene should a militia or other force attempt to stage a coup.

Even our President has the audacity to emulate Marie Antoinette by spending $100 million on an unnecessary and frivolous excursion to Africa, presumably to introduce his family to their "roots", while telling the soon to be unemployed government workers they are on their own.

Now, there are several alternatives to violence which could correct all of this. We live in a nation of laws, a nation where we can choose to elect individuals who will defend those laws and work to correct the inequities of the present situation. We, the Citizens of this nation, can redress the wrongs perpetrated on this nation by the power mongers and the greedy by taking the necessary steps to place decent men in office and monitoring them closely to ensure they are acting in accordance with our wishes.

But this takes hard work and commitment; a willingness to sacrifice your X-Boxes and your Play Stations, your smart phones and your computer gaming in order to stay abreast of the realities which are threatening this nation. It takes a commitment to pay attention to the things that matter and not get caught up in the distractions and disinformation spoon fed to us by the media in a successful and on-going campaign to appeal to the emotions and passions of the special interests.

We will not fall on the legality of same sex marriage, we will not fall on the right to abortion or the ownership of firearms. We will not even fall to China, whose entire economy is based on our continued existence. We will not fall because Muslims have come to our nation to exercise their guaranteed right of freedom of religion. Our economy will not fail for the hundreds of thousands of undocumented aliens within our borders, those who are working jobs and pouring money back into our economy. None of this will lead to the destruction of the United States, no matter what the media would have you believe.

If this nation is to fall, it will fall from the Apathy we teach our children, the failure of its citizens to be involved in the day to day business of the government. It will fall because we forgot to teach our children to care.

"The only thing necessary for the Triumph of Evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
