  • It's all too easy to forget. Most days I do.

I get caught up in the routine, the rushing around, duties and engagements, promises and petty miseries. I focus on the mistakes, on what's left undone, on the shortcomings of the garden, on what was overpromised, on what was not mentioned enough. I spend a lot of time travelling and then, when I get home, I am too busy catching up with housework and admin to see my surroundings.

I see nothing but clouds. Run to gather all the toys before the rain. I moan about the length of the winter.

And then, one morning, I get home after the school run and I see my surroundings with unjaded eyes. Warmth and birdsong envelope me as I prepare a seat for myself on the patio.

Yes, I have a lot of work to do today. But how lucky am I to have such an inspirational place to do it! I should remember that more often.
