  • On a late summer’s morning my friend Mario and I get up ridiculously early, pack our photography equipment, drive down to Chicago, and find ourselves at Millennium Park in front of “Cloud Gate” before sun rise.

“Cloud Gate” is the silvery mirrored sculpture created by Anish Kapoor which is fondly known in Chicago as “The Bean”. Weighing 110 tons, the elliptical sculpture is forged of a seamless series of stainless steel plates which are highly polished. The Bean, measuring 66-feet long by 33-feet high, is among the largest of its kind in the world and is inspired by liquid mercury.

Today I photograph it’s side. I love how the dawn sun shocks the buildings with energy and light that, in turn, reflect off The Bean’s surface.
