  • I saw them today against
    the newly sprung green and
    promise of dandelions
    and thought perhaps I had
    glimpsed a pocket of heaven.
It was not the expected tables of
    delicacies for the banquet,
    but rather, three small rings,
    all hooves and manes
and soft noses prickly with whiskers
and the smell of hay mingled
with fresh grass that convinced me,
heaven can be found on earth,
    even in the smallest places.
