  • We sit in the movie theater, the lights dimmed. You smile and casually brush your hand against mine, I anticipate your touch. Wait, I can’t hold your hand, I’m answering a text message. The announcer says, ”Please silence your phone and no texting during the movie”. I have only a few words to go. The announcer says, “if you continue to text, your partner will think you’d rather be with someone else”. There, I’ve pressed the send button and put the phone on silent and slipped it into my purse.

Suddenly I am reeling from a force within my purse. Trying to grab onto something in front or to the side of me, my seat is ripped up and out of the floor beneath me. I'm being sucked in, I cannot balance, I can barely touch or see. I’m stuck in a spiraling funnel and there is nothing but code and I’m forced to watch, with my eyelids peeled back, flailing and falling. I’m smashing fruit, chased by angry birds and my picture gallery flashes before me from one timezone to timezone. Unceremoniously I am dumped, eyes flashing and ears echoing, “Ple e ase si lence you r phoneee”. I hear a baby crying, a dog is barking, am I stuck inside my cell phone? The announcer says, “now sit back, relax and enjoy the movie”.
