  • I don't feel any hope for the world.
Every day on the bus ride home from school, i hear kids calling each other faggots, and saying things are so "gay", and this is just SO frustrating! I am a minority. Here in Maine, it is not often that you see someone who is Mexican, or from another country. And this is why i notice things like kids picking on minorities. Because i know what that feels like.
Downeast Maine is such a weird place for minorities. A couple of kids made fun of my brother the other day, calling him a "fence jumper" referring to the border between Mexico and the US. WHY? He is just a person, he has feelings, and thoughts, and fears. Just like everyone else, but for some reason people feel the urge to pick on him. Why is this okay? Is this related to the state of our society? Diversity is part of the reason we are still here! If the whole world consisted of white-skinned people, who only ate white rice, our world would be very fragile. If all of a sudden white rice was to stop growing on earth, those people that depend on it (the whole planet) would be without food, and would eventually die. Don't people see that in order to survive and thrive we need diversity? We need a backup.
This world needs to change if we are going to keep living. If we go on the way we are living right now, hating and destroying one another, the only thing we are going to accomplish will be the end of people on this earth. I mean, the black rhinoceros went officially extinct the other day. Doesn't anyone see how terrible this is? We are just destroying and destroying, and no one notices.
What is my role? I see all these things, and i know that i am a very smart, thoughtful person, but how do i decide what i am going to do about it? CAN something be done? Or is it too late?
