  • There's really only one word that accurately describes meeting my birth mother for the first time.


    I'm not even sure it has sunk in yet.

    Just being able to interact with a blood relative was beyond my mind's comprehension. I thought I would spend time processing things on the train, but instead I realized early on that some things are just too earth-shattering to be processed.

    We both felt at ease with each other thanks to the many hours spent chatting on the phone and online getting to know each other. Still, some things were surprising like height difference and how her voice sounds when not distorted by a cell phone.

    The trip was incredible, to say the least. I feel like I learned so much about myself and experienced something I once thought would never happen.

    I truly cherish the time Lisa and I got to spend together - it felt like every moment had meaning. It was incredible witnessing all of our common personality traits and behaviors. There are so many ways in which we mirror each other.

    I can't wait to share more in the coming days and weeks.
