Mardi Gras parades snaked through the midnight city. Somewhere, Chris was among the partiers, preaching.

The eyes of the alligator float glowed red, and we were all reaching out, screaming for the masked men to throw us beads or beer koozies or something. What did we really want? What do we really want?
