  • My mom tells a story of me toddling around on the roof of our porch. She was in the yard and looked up and saw me on the roof. She freaked out. She said she could see my head appear for a bit and then disappear and then she couldn’t see me. And then I would reappear at a different part of the roof. She sent my dad to run up into the house to get me, while she tried to position herself to catch me if I fell.

I don’t actually remember that story. I remember before that story.

I was in my room - - probably locked in. I remember looking at the window and pushing the trunk over to the window. I climbed up on the trunk and opened the window. I put my hands on the window sill and felt rough metal ridges. I thought, “This isn’t going to work; it’s too rough.” I climbed back down and got something to put over the metal - - probably a sheet or blanket. I climbed back up and out of the window. Hanging from the sill, my feet felt for the roof. I was hanging and couldn’t pull myself back up and my feet were still a foot and a half above the roof. So I let go. I landed on the porch’s roof. I looked around. I remember thinking I was not going near the edge! I toddled around this way and that way, but there was no way down.

That is all I remember. My mom’s story must start there.
