  • In light of the Boston Marathon attacks, things are hard – she and her community always react in the same way: Please, don’t let it be a Muslim.

    She watched CNN’s coverage a week after the bombings and for the first time heard descriptions of the victims. It almost put her to tears.

    Before that, she’d been defensive toward her community, defensive of Muslims, which she said barred her from feeling other emotions. She’s never before experienced alienation from friends because of her religion.

    “I realized that was the first time I actually felt the effects of what you should feel from an act of terror,” she said.
