  • As an angel strums a mandolin
    trees sway, leaves flutter
    the sunlight listens to
    a resplendent lullaby of spring.

An angel played a single note
    that carried on the wind
    was sung by the meadowlark
as he trilled to find his mate

the note caught a leaf and
    casts a shimmery song
    where echos ripple
    as the note repeats unbound

    a howl of a dog
    a caw of a crow
    across the meadow
    behind a potting shed
    a cooing turtledove
    a low and calming call

the note fell upon a man
    whose ears were deaf
and heard no color but saw
and he skipped a little step
just for the joy of it

    the soaring note
    played a quilted song
    of meadowlark to man
and all it took to hear the song
was the touch of an angels hand.
