  • We know about vultures, but komodo dragons are the most vicious morticians. Their bite shreds a wound with slow venom that moves so gradually, the animal apparently doesn't know she's sick. She'll continue nesting, breeding, unaware that she's dying and killing her brood, too.

    The dragon follows its prey distantly, patiently, sometimes waiting for many months until she finally collapses. Sometimes, though, they don't even eat what they've stalked. For some, hunger is secondary. It seems to be enough to watch the animal suffer.

    They've also been known to ignore their feedings for weeks, remaining singularly obsessed with killing the zookeeper.
